How-To
Welcome to the SKC, and thank you for dropping by. The How-To information below details the ins and outs of the workings of our community, and you should read it if you wish to join and play with us. This page is somewhat of our guidebook, so we’ll refer to it when we need to review a rule or a decision.
How to Play
If you’d like to join our community, the first thing you should probably do is create an account on our forum. This is the hub of the community, and where all shows and sales are held!
Your next step would then be to create a kennel in your game. You can build this however you want, in any style you want. At this point, you are only limited by your own creativity.
You can also now obtain dogs, too. This is why the forum is a good place to be, because although you can create any dog in any breed imaginable for yourself, there are also plenty of other players selling their dogs and puppies, so if you don’t want to create your own, or want a mix of dogs from different breeders, it’s the best way to obtain them. Each seller will have their own rules and code of conduct for buying their dogs and as a buyer you should read and respect them!
Next, in order to compete your dogs, you’ll have to register them. Head on over to our registries page and find the breed club for your dog. Don’t worry if their isn’t one, simply browse the group clubs instead to find one your dog fits into. When you’re sure your dog fits the standards given, you can simply send an email with the registration form all filled out! The registrar will contact you as soon as possible letting you know if your dog was accepted. If not, you can change him or her until they are.
Finally, once your dog or dogs are accepted into registries, you will have a few options. You can keep them as a companion, loving them and training them and keeping us all up to date with pictures. Secondly, you are able to breed them, produce puppies and either sell or keep the puppies, starting your own legacy of home-breds. Or, of course, you can compete your dogs and enter them into the various shows and competitions we have around the SKC and prove to everyone that you are the top dog around here!

Running a Website
We fully recommend that every member has their own website, which they can use to showcase their dogs and keep us all up to date with their happenings! Of course, running a website is completely optional, but it really adds to the experience.
In most cases, dogs must have an online profile before they are eligible for registration from any breed or group club.
The SKC recommends Freewebs, Weebly, Tumblr and Blogger for easy website creation, each of which offers high flexibility, requires minimum knowledge and provides beautiful premade templates – all the hard work done for you!

ageing and Breeding
The SKC has its own ageing system which we encourage our members to use, however it is fully optional and you may choose to play differently if you wish. We tend to operate with the following: 6 Weeks = 1 Sim Year. This keeps all of the puppies and dogs in the community ageing at the same rate, and helps us keep track of things.
Under the assumption that you are using this system, a bitch should only produce 1 litter per sim-year, ie, 1 litter per real life month.
